Yesterday (Monday) was St. Mary's Day here in Georgia. (Miriamoba). Our family invited us to a celebration for the event. They explained we would be meeting the neighbors from the street starting at Midnight Saturday. We assumed this would be some kind of festival or block party.
We were sort-of right. Sopo (our host Mom) started baking some special bread around 11pm, and we arrived at the next-door neighbors about 20 minutes before Mid-night. A table was set in a courtyard underneath a sweet smelling grape arbor, and a massive feast was being prepared. St. Mary's Day is started with a Midnight Supra.
The neighbors all arrived before the stroke of 12, filling the table. We ate all night, finally leaving at 4am.
We'd both attended supras before, celebrating over a large formal meal is a way of life here. It was the timing and the setting of this one that made it especially beautiful.
I'll post a picture tomorrow...

Amy-you look so thrilled in the pictures!
Block Party at midnight...sounds like that could be a fun dorm activity-I may have to propose that to my RA. School is going well, I'll e-mail soon. Tom-you need to tell me how to make pictures smaller so I can e-mail them to you guys. Love you and miss you both!!
