A typical day...

Posted at June 26, 2006 07:58 AM in .

7:00 am - our little travel alarm clock starts beeping.

7:30 am - we finally get up. one of us stumbles downstairs to start the water for coffee

8:00 am - We are dressed and drinking coffee in the kitchen. We'll go over the homework we are turning in that day. Maybe have a little bread for breakfeast.

8:15 am - Out the door. It's a 25 or so minute walk to University for Amy, we walk together. Then, I'll continue another 10 or so minutes to the NGO where my classes are held.

9:00 am - 1:00pm - Intensive language instruction with our respective groups. (Mine has 4 other trainees, Amy's has 6)

1:00pm - 2:00pm - Our respective groups break for lunch. We eat at one of the group members houses for lunch. Typically, it's a huge meal. (Because we are guests in the house)

2:00pm - 6:00pm - Technical training. My group learns about NGO's and development. Amy's group learns about teaching.

6:05pm - Amy and meet at the Stalin Statue to start our walk home.

6:45pm - We get to the house. We change clothes and come down for dinner.

8:15pm - Dinner is winding down. We start homework.

9:15pm - We take a break from homework to walk with Host Dad and Brother, or we sit around singing while Host Dad plays the guitar. We practice our language with the family. They check our homework. (They do not speak English, except for little brother, who speaks a little)

10:00pm - We go into the garden and pick mint tea leaves, which we brew, and sip while eating some butter and fresh honey on homemade bread.

10:30pm - Shower time. I'll go into the basement to light the hot water heater. We shower.

11:00pm - We sleep, completely exahusted.

Not a bad life at all. Pretty boring, it's mostly school and homework, but we love it.

Wow! So many new experiences for you guys! I'm sure that you'll both pick up the language quickly. When it's all around you like that, it's amazing how fast you can learn - I know that Amy has a gift in the area of languages anyway, so I'm sure everyone will soon be impressed by how quickly you two can communicate with them. Looks like the meals are an event in and of themselves - guess it's a good thing the food is good! Love you!

I'm so happy for both of you! It sounds wonderful! Hopefully by next summer you will fully know the language and help me rent a camel.
