Song Kran EVERY Year!!!!!

My older sister Becky posted a comment a while ago saying that we should start such a tradition as Song Kran in the US. Tom and I wholeheartedly agreed on our trip that wherever we are in the world, we will celebrate Song Kran. We encourage all our family and friends to participate as well.

Here are some suggestions for getting started:

1.) On the evening of April 12th, put an extra couple trays of ice cubes in the freezer in preparation for the morning.

2.) Wake up before your spouse and sneak quietly into the kitchen to dump ALL the ice in the freezer into a bucket of water. (it's very important to remember to use up ALL the ice)

3.) Wait a few minutes for the ice to begin melting, thus cooling the water surrounding it.

4.) Lift the bucket with one hand on the handle and one hand underneath for the best throwing leverage.

5.) Scream something like, " Oh my gosh, honey, come here QUICK!" in a panicked tone of voice.

6.) As your concerned mate rounds the corner into the kitchen, douse him/her with the ice water and then laugh hysterically while waiting for retribution.

My suggestions take into account several differences between Thai and American culture. First, on April 13 in most places in the United States, it's still REALLY COLD!!! So, I suggest that it is done inside, however, you'll notice, not in the bedroom, beause I'm not sure how or even if a matress could dry out in time to sleep in it again that night (that is, assuming you'll both be sleeping in it and one of you won't be sleeping with Fido). Also, I suggest using up ALL the ice in the freezer for much the same reason. It's very cold in April, and you don't want there to be any ice left for your partner to use against you when the time comes.

Sawadee Bi Mai !
